Khadija Omari Kopa is a Taarab singer from Tanzania. Born in 1963 in Zanzibar, the artist who goes by the stage name Khadija Kopa was inspired to get into music by her grandfather Khamis Mikidadi.
Khadija came into prominence after joining TOT band in 1992 where she released her debut song “Ngwinji” which was featured in the bands album, and ended up being a commercial success.
Khadija has over the years established herself in the taarab industry and this has seen her christened “The Queen of Taarab.
She has won awards such as Killi Zimbabwe, and BBC Radio One. She is also the first and only taarab artist ever to be nominated for the Afrimma Awards. Khadija has collaborated with several artists with the latest being Tanzanian star Diamond.
